Space Wars on Cinematronicsin arcade-kone vuodelta 1977 ja aito pala videopelihistoriaa: yksi varhaisimmista kaupallisista peleistä, joka käytti vektorinäyttöä piirtäen teräviä hehkuvia viivoja aikalaistensa palikkamaisen rasterigrafiikan sijaan. Se oli kolikkopelisovitus uraauurtavasta 1960-luvun keskustietokonepelistä Spacewar!, joka toi tuon yliopistohakkereiden klassikon pelihallien lattioille.

Pelissä kaksi kolmiomaista avaruusalusta ottaa mittaa toisistaan torpedoin samalla kun ne kamppailevat keskustähden painovoimakaivon kanssa, joka vetää jatkuvasti niiden lentoratoja puoleensa, sekä vaarasta ajautua siihen. Se on taitopainotteinen liikemäärän ja inertian peli pelkän tähtäämisen sijaan, ja sen kahden pelaajan kilpailullinen ydin teki siitä vetovoimaisen. Teknisenä ja suunnittelullisena virstanpylväänä — vektorigrafiikka, fysiikkavetoinen taistelu, suora linja pelaamisen alkujuurille — se on paljon merkittävämpi kuin sen yksinkertainen ulkoasu antaa ymmärtää.
