Show do Milhão

By 2001 the Mega Drive was long dead almost everywhere — except Brazil, where Tec Toy kept selling the console and even producing new games for it. Show do Milhão is the most famous proof: a quiz game based on SBT's hugely popular millionaire show hosted by Silvio Santos, one of the most beloved figures in Brazilian television history. The cartridge was born from a partnership between SBT, Sega and Tec Toy and was released only in Brazil, entirely in Portuguese.

The game plays exactly like the broadcast: you climb a ladder of questions worth ever larger sums on the way to the million, leaning on the show's trademark lifelines when things get tricky. Tec Toy packed in a bank of one thousand questions and, crucially, sampled the voice of Silvio Santos himself, turning the living room into a small slice of the TV studio.

Brazilians bought it in remarkable numbers — well over 100,000 cartridges, on a console more than a decade old — and the success spawned a Volume 2 sequel in 2002. The Brazilian Portuguese original is the only version ever made, and if your Portuguese is up to the questions, you can try your luck right in your browser on OldGame.cz.
