Back in eighty-eight, life wasn't easy for cosmonauts in captain's uniforms. Captain Blood throws you into a spaceship where you've got to solve logic puzzles that look like a flight simulator, but really it's all about not mixing up which button to press and in what order.

The game revolves around a space mission that requires you to overcome various technical systems and logic locks. You operate the ship's instruments, study panels full of buttons and switches, and try to figure out what they do. Instructions are often pretty vague, so you spend a lot of time methodically clicking everything or trying to parse the visual logic -- matching colors, tracking indicators, watching LEDs light up. It's more like working in a space station call center than having fun.

What makes Captain Blood an interesting archive curiosity is exactly that obsessiveness. The developers won't hold your hand. You can't skip the manual and pretend you understood everything. You've got to actually play, take notes, and use your brain. In the late eighties, that took guts. Today it just feels tiring -- like when you're stuck on one panel for half an hour only to realize you missed one element from the start.

The graphics are archaic (lines, rectangles, simple animation), the sound barely exists. You wait for something to happen, but nothing does -- just the constant burden of having to think. This isn't a game for relaxation or dramatic twists. It's a battle with your own impatience.

There's something to it, though. When it clicks and you solve a puzzle correctly, you feel it, because you earned it yourself. There's nothing here to pat you on the back or sweet-talk you.
