Tietopää

A Finnish general-knowledge quiz for DOS from 1996, distributed as shareware in the archive tietop_1.arj. The title Tietopää translates loosely as „brainbox".

Its own blurb calls it a „nice 1-2-3 multiple-choice quiz" – every question offers three answers to pick from. The shareware release covered three subjects: television, history and geography. The full version could be unlocked by registering for just 20 markka, a token sum typical of domestic Finnish shareware in the pre-euro years.

Surprisingly many quizzes like this were written in nineties Finland. The language was a natural barrier to imported titles, so the local scene simply wrote its own games in its own tongue, which is why international retro sites almost never mention them.
