Gumball is a 1983 title for the Commodore 64, published by Brøderbund, one of the defining software houses of the early home-computer years. It is a light-hearted puzzle-arcade game built around a whimsical premise of sorting gumballs through a network of pipes, chutes and valves — you route the balls to their correct destinations, wrestling with a machine that grows steadily more demanding as you progress.

The game is fondly remembered for its playful, cartoonish presentation and gentle humour, a tone Brøderbund cultivated in much of its catalogue. As an early-80s puzzler it rewards quick thinking and planning rather than reflexes alone, and it stands as a charming example of the inventive, offbeat design that flourished on 8-bit machines before genres hardened into fixed formulas.
