Before each stage, you pick one of three available routes — it's not mandatory, but when you know you'll have to tackle them all eventually, the choice of path actually matters. You collect energy to pump into different weapons. Standard fire, laser, cannon, electric whatever — each one's got different power, range, and fuel consumption.

Here's the thing: you're not just a passive target spraying bullets forward. You swap weapons and think about which one to use against which enemy type. The cannon's slow but devastating; the laser's quick but weaker. When you're running low on energy and both tiny and massive foes are buzzing around you, you feel the pressure. The game doesn't keep its foot on the gas the whole time — it knows how to stay cool, gives you a breather to recover, then strikes again.

In the nineties, this was solid mid-tier stuff. Not as fiercely cult as Castlevania IV, not as revolutionary as the first Sonic, but action with brains. The visuals are colorful, the music resonates in that 16-bit charm — nothing fancy, but it works. What has aged a bit awkwardly is the slightly fuzzy difficulty logic; sometimes you feel the game tripped you up for no good reason.
