PC Basket 4.5

Basketball on computers in the nineties meant one thing above all: spreadsheets, sluggish AI, and controls straight out of a terminal command line. PC Basket 4.5 fits this tradition like a ball through a net — smoothly, but without any shine.

It's a management sim where you run a team through a season, build your roster, train players, and take them to court in matches. Mechanically, it was standard fare for its time — textured menus, a simple engine for actual games. The goal is clear: win the league and collect trophies. Nothing revolutionary, but at least *something* for basketball enthusiasts back then.

Gameplay happens on two levels — the tactical side with training decisions, player purchases, and lineups — and the actual matches, where sports logic gets translated into game code. The problem was always the same: the computer doesn't make it fun, just functional. Animations were stiff, pacing dull. Realism achieved boredom at full speed.

What's interesting is that PC Basket 4.5 was one of those titles that didn't really prove the PC could do things better than consoles. It just existed, had its audience among hardcore sim players, and for everyone else it was as thrilling as filing taxes. Today, even its technical limitations don't work against it — the data's obsolete, we've moved on, and these games are just trainable nostalgia at this point.

Want to play? If spreadsheets excite you more than action, and nostalgia won't choke you out, fire it up in an emulator. It's still a functional basketball sim, just not the place to find your new favorite. Try something with some drama instead.
