Fútbol Argentino '96 is an Argentine hack of J.League Pro Striker 2, a Japanese football game for the Mega Drive. The fast top-down arcade play and short one- or two-player matches stayed intact, but the Japanese league was replaced with clubs from the Argentine first division and the text was turned into Spanish.

The cartridges circulated around Argentina in the late 1990s, well outside official distribution. The hacker behind them, credited as Miky, specialised in re-skinning imported games so they looked Argentine, and for many local players this was the only way to play 16-bit football with home teams.

The Sega Mega Drive (Genesis in the US) was the first widely successful 16-bit console. A direct rival of the SNES and successor to the Master System, it sold around 30 million units and was made famous by Sonic the Hedgehog.
