O igri

Ova recenzija još nije prevedena — prikazujemo izvornik (English).

There's a moment early on where an ordinary guy gets bundled into a car, driven to some nondescript location, and told flat out that he's now a secret agent. No training montage, no explanation. Just — you're in. That kind of deadpan absurdity is exactly what Agent Mlíčňák runs on, and honestly, it works better than it has any right to.

Released in 1995 by Warsaw-based Metropolis Software, Agent Mlíčňák is a Polish point-and-click adventure for MS-DOS. Metropolis were one of the busiest studios in the region at the time, churning out titles for a domestic market that was hungry for games in its own language. This one follows a completely unremarkable young man who gets conscripted into some kind of intelligence service and immediately thrown into situations he is thoroughly unqualified for. The comedy writes itself — or rather, the developers wrote it, and they mostly got it right.

The gameplay is standard LucasArts-adjacent point-and-click: click on things, collect objects, combine them in ways that range from logical to completely unhinged, talk to characters, move on. The puzzles sit somewhere between mildly clever and "try everything on everything," which was the default difficulty setting for the entire genre in 1995. The interface won't surprise anyone who played Monkey Island or Simon the Sorcerer around the same time, though it lacks the polish of those Western contemporaries. What it has instead is a specific local flavour — the humour lands differently when it's built from references and sensibilities you actually grew up with.

What made it stick was less the mechanics and more the tone. Metropolis understood that their audience didn't need Hollywood production values — they needed something that felt like it was made for them, not translated for them. The writing is self-aware without being smug about it. The main character's complete lack of spy credentials is the joke, and the game commits to that premise without collapsing into pure parody. Technically it's dated in ways you'd expect: the visuals are competent but not ambitious, and the audio is the kind of Sound Blaster output that you either find charming or exhausting depending on your mood.

Today, Agent Mlíčňák is a time capsule as much as a game. It won't convert anyone who has no patience for early-nineties adventure design — the pixel hunting and occasional logic leaps are real — but for anyone curious about what the Central European game scene was actually producing in those years, it's a genuine artefact. Play it in a browser with a walkthrough nearby and let it do what it does best: remind you that a cheap premise executed with genuine personality beats an expensive one executed without it.
